Bondi, Putnam Join No Casinos Opposition to Gaming Bill

Include Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam among those opposed to the gaming destination bill that is expected to be drastically rewritten before it goes before its first Senate vote next month.

The two Cabinet members, joining members of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and No Casinos, an organization opposing expanded gambling, called on state legislators to walk away from the proposal they say will grow crime and lead to a proliferation of gambling across Florida.

Adam Putnam Comes Out Against Resort Gaming in Florida

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam came out against expanded resort gaming in the Sunshine State on Thursday.

What makes Florida special is our world-class natural resources and our international, family-friendly attractions. These resources are what is at stake in this debate about the expansion of gambling in Florida, Putnam said in a statement. Allowing Vegas-style casinos to come to Florida would hinder the states future economic development, would threaten the safety and security of our communities and would not benefit Floridas families.

Everglades Foundation Says Scott Understands Need for Restoration

The Everglades Foundation says Gov. Rick Scott understands the need to protect the Florida Everglades by more than doubling his proposed funding for restoration efforts.

We know Governor Scott has to face tough choices in making his budget recommendations, Kirk Fordham, Everglades Foundation CEO, stated in a release. The fact that Governor Scott is willing to more than double his previous request for Everglades funding demonstrates his understanding that protecting the Everglades and our water supply is a necessary ingredient to growing our states economy.

GOP Senate Hopeful Adam Hasner Slams Obama's Handling of Israel Issues

Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, now in a crowded Republican primary field looking to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, expressed his support for Israel on Thursday -- and attacked President Barack Obamas policies in regard to that American ally.

We must firmly acknowledge that if history has taught us anything, it is that policies of appeasement are ultimately destined to fail, Hasner said on Thursday. On this front, President Obama has proven to be even more irresponsible than Jimmy Carter.

George LeMieux Bashes Bill Nelson on ICE Detention Center Proposal

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now in a crowded Republican primary to take on Democrat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, took aim at the incumbents support of opening a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Detention Center in Southwest Ranches.

LeMieuxs team noted that Nelson supported the detention center in April -- and has not changed his mind despite local residents opposing it.

Adam Hasner Reels in the Support of Will McBride

Attorney and conservative activist Will McBride, who took 30 percent of the Republican primary vote when he challenged Katherine Harris for the GOP nod for the Senate nomination in 2006, announced on Thursday that he is backing former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner in the crowded primary to take on Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.

Private Colleges Cheer Rick Scott's Support of FRAG

Gov. Rick Scotts proposed budget, which was unveiled in Tallahassee on Wednesday, drew the applause Thursday of Ed Moore, the president and CEO of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida. Moore, who leads the group of 29 private higher-education institutions, praised Scott for continuing to support the Florida Resident Access Grants.
