Gov. Rick Scott said Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll has done a very good job as she approaches the end of her first year in office.

He said her primary focus has been military base issues, federal defense and veterans affairs.

Scott: Should Floridian Provide Insurance to Uninsurable Waterfront Mansions

Gov. Rick Scott wants to know why residents of Florida should continue to subsidize property insurance for ritzy homes built in high risk areas.

Told that Citizens Property Insurance is woefully overexposed, Scott told reporters after the Cabinet meeting Tuesday that the insurance program needs to be fixed.

Scott to Release Proposed 2012-13 Budget Wednesday afternoon

With an expected focus on job creation and education, Gov. Rick Scott will release his proposed 2012-2013 budget from the Cabinet meeting room in the Capitol at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, his office announced in a release.

Bill to Encourage Inland Oil Drilling Clears House Panel

Trying to encourage more oil production in Florida, a House panel Tuesday approved a proposal that would offer a tax incentive for tapping old wells in Southwest Florida and the Panhandle.

Sponsor Matt Hudson, R-Naples, said HB 87 seeks to "rejuvenate" oil fields that were discovered decades ago but have been abandoned. At least in some cases, he said, active wells are operating near the abandoned sites.

Florida House Offers Seven Plans to Redraw Congressional Districts

The chairman of the House Redistricting Committee says Republicans will be more disappointed than Democrats as they review the seven maps proposed for the states new congressional districts.

Those studying the congressional districts will also be confused when they first see the numbers, as the districts have been made more uniform, starting at 1 in the western end of the Panhandle down to the states additional 27th and 28th districts landing in Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys.

The state is picking up the additional districts because of its population growth.

Knocking down a rumor that she will run for Congress next year, state Sen. Paula Dockery says she has no future aspirations to serve in a legislative branch.

But in an interview with Sunshine State News, she didn't rule out another campaign for governor.

Term-limited in 2012, the Lakeland Republican was a Florida House member for six years and will conclude a decade in the state Senate next year.
