Florida Senators: Why Aren't Our Universities Attracting More Space-Researching 'Tim Tebows'?

State senators want to explore why universities in Florida, both private and public, fail to attract the Tim Tebows of space research when NASA has spent a half century launching rockets from the Sunshine State.

Members of the Military Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security Committee agreed Monday to invite presidents of universities and colleges in Florida to explain what is needed to get their schools more involved in the space industry.

Ron Paul Runs New Ad in Iowa and New Hampshire

Making his second bid for the Republican nomination and his third attempt at the White House, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is hitting the airwaves in Iowa and New Hampshire. A new ad from the Paul team stresses the maverick Texas congressmans positions against federal spending -- and plays up his plan to eliminate five federal departments. Paul is battling former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts for second place behind former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich in most Iowa polls.

Study Praises RESTORE Act as Good for Businesses

With the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee set to meet on Wednesday to examine the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act of 2011 (RESTORE Act), business and environmental leaders pointed to a new study that found that ecosystem restoration could lead to new jobs in the Sunshine State.

With Cain Out, Newt Gingrich Leads Romney and Ron Paul

In the first national poll released after businessman Herman Cain pulled out of the Republican presidential race, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich leads the pack. In a Poll Position poll released on Monday, Gingrich takes 37 percent. Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is in second place with 23 percent. A Poll Position poll released last week had Gingrich at 32 percent, Romney at 23 percent and Cain at 14 percent.

Businesswoman Karen Harrington ran against U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in 2010 and is hoping for a rematch in 2012. Over the weekend, Harrington unveiled the backing of Republican presidential hopeful U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.
