With Cain Out, Newt Gingrich Leads Romney and Ron Paul
In the first national poll released after businessman Herman Cain pulled out of the Republican presidential race, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich leads the pack. In a Poll Position poll released on Monday, Gingrich takes 37 percent. Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is in second place with 23 percent. A Poll Position poll released last week had Gingrich at 32 percent, Romney at 23 percent and Cain at 14 percent.
The rest of the field lag behind in single digits. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas takes a distant third with 7 percent followed by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota with 6 percent. Texas Gov. Rick Perry garners 3 percent while former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania take 2 percent each.
The poll of 502 likely Republican primary voters was taken on Dec. 4 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
