Gus Bilirakis Calls on Turkey to 'Safeguard its Christian Heritage'

From his perches on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the International Freedom Caucus and as co-chairman of the House Hellenic Caucus, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis issued a statement on Thursday after the House unanimously passed a measure urging Turkey to respect Christian sites and return confiscated church property.

GOP State Senate Hopeful Calls for Immigration Reform

Pointing to a report earlier in the year from the Federation for American Reform, Florida state Senate hopeful Ron Rushing, who has filed to run against Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, in the Republican primary, called for major immigration reform in the Sunshine State. The FAIR report found that 950,000 illegal aliens are costing taxpayers almost $5.5 billion.

Florida Primary Under Way, Ballots Going Out to Overseas Voters

By early next week the first ballots in Floridas Presidential Preference Primary may be marked.

Election supervisors across Florida start dropping the first ballots for the Republican Presidential Primary in the mail Thursday and Friday, sending thousands of envelopes to voters now overseas, many in the military.

Leon County was one of the first to get the ballots in the mail, sending out 238 to voters overseas on Wednesday, Tameka Byer, county election records manager, in an email.

Other counties aren't far behind.

Mitt Romney Leads the GOP Pack in New Hampshire

A Suffolk University/7NEWS (WHDH TV) poll of likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters released late on Wednesday found that former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts continues to dominate the field in the Granite State.

Romney tops the poll with 38 percent, while former U.S House Speaker Newt Gingrich takes second with 20 percent. Former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah, who has focused on New Hampshire, brushes past U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas to take third place with 13 percent. Paul follows with 8 percent.

Poll Finds Newt Gingrich Fading in Iowa; Sunshine State News Live-Blogs Tonight's GOP Debate

Sunshine State News will live-blog tonight's GOP presidential debate in Sioux City, Iowa.

The 9 p.m. debate on Fox -- the last scheduled before Iowans caucus on Jan. 3 -- comes as Newt Gingrich's poll numbers are sliding.

The latest survey by Rasmussen Reports finds the former House speaker back down to 20 percent of likely caucus-goers -- shedding 12 points from a month ago.

Mitt Romney has retaken the lead, but still has only a 23 percent share, Rasmussen said.

Seminoles Continue to Dispute Bondi's Laundering Comment

Seminole Tribe of Florida Chairman James Billie continued on Wednesday the tribes criticism of Attorney General Pam Bondi for linking the Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa to money laundering in a media conference to oppose the gaming bill before the state Legislature.

On Wednesday, Billie posted a column on the tribe's website saying Bondi's comment was "damaging to the reputation of the Seminole Tribe of Florida."

Bondi's office did not immediately respond for comment Wednesday night.
