'Legislative Insanity': 1,217-Page Funding Bill Heads for Approval

A 1,217-page, $1 trillion spending bill may garner enough votes to keep the federal government running Friday, but it has opened Congress to more ridicule.

The House Appropriations Committee's omnibus bill was released so late that it will require lawmakers to waive their three-day posting rule to vote on it.

Reminiscent of the way Democrats rammed the 2,000-page Obamacare bill through Congress, the spending plan now appears on a fast track to beat a midnight Friday funding deadline.

Bondi: Seminole Casino 'Vigilant,' but Can Be Misused by Money Launderers

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says she should have clarified a comment during a media conference last week that linked a tribal casino with a money laundering investigation.

I want to make it clear that I in no way am implying that the casino was involved in any crime, Bondi said Thursday.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida has said Bondis comment at the Dec. 8 media conference could damage its reputation.

Bondi said she was repeating a comment told her by a Hillsborough County sheriffs deputy.

Scott Calls for Suspension of FAMU's President Ammons

Gov. Rick Scott has called for Florida Agricultural and Mechanical Universitys board of trustees to suspend President James Ammons.

A release from the governors office states:

After returning from a trade mission to Israel today, Governor Scott was briefed by members of his senior staff regarding the latest developments in the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) investigations.

Governor Scott has since had a conversation with FAMU board of trustees Chairman Solomon Badger regarding the boards meeting next Monday, Dec. 19.

Ron Paul Wins Another Straw Poll in Florida

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who scored a straw poll victory in Pasco County earlier in the week, won the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Republicans and the Miami Young Republicans straw poll on Wednesday night. Paul took 67 percent of the votes cast followed by Mitt Romney and Gary Johnson. Sixty Republicans voted in the straw poll. Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux beat out the other GOP hopefuls in the U.S. Senate race in the straw poll.

Florida Supreme Court Says State Needs 72 Judges

Floridas highest court says the state needs 71 additional trial court judges and one for the 2nd District Court of Appeal in Lakeland because of an increase in mortgage and civil cases and demands on reduced staff time by a growth in those who self-represent themselves in legal matters.

Former Congressman Tom Feeney Takes Over at AIF

Associated Industries of Florida, one of the chief representatives for business in Tallahassee, unveiled its new president and CEO on Thursday -- former U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney. Feeney, who takes over from Barney Bishop, will start at AIF on Jan. 1.

George LeMieux Wins Miami Straw Poll, Attacks Bill Nelson

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running in the crowded Republican primary to see who will challenge incumbent Democrat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, sent out a message to supporters on Thursday cheering a straw poll victory from the night before.

I have some good news to share with you. Last night, I won the Miami Young Republicans/Hialeah-Miami Lakes Republican Club straw poll with a resounding 52 percent! LeMieux wrote. Supporters like you made last night's straw poll win possible and will carry us to victory in 2012.
