GOP on Senate Dems' Budget Blockade: Bill Nelson is No Joe Manchin

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., broke ranks with fellow Democrats this week by deriding his party for failing to pass a budget in nearly 1,000 days.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee praised the recently elected Manchin, and assailed his two-term Democratic colleague, Sen. Bill Nelson, who is up for election in Florida next year.

Connecticut Mayor Proposes to Let Illegal Aliens Vote in City Elections

Tapping into a growing trend, the Democratic mayor of New Haven, Conn., wants to allow illegal aliens to vote in local elections.

John DeStefano said he will forward his proposal to the state Legislature for approval.

Christine O’Donnell Backs Mitt Romney in Presidential Race

Adam Hasner Wins Pasco County Straw Poll

Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner took 51 percent in the Republican Party of Pasco Countys straw poll Tuesday of candidates looking to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. U.S. Rep. Connie Mack placed a distant second with 25 percent.

Private Health Data Network Introduced in Florida

A new Florida company, HIE Networks, joined with the Florida Hospital Association and the Florida Medical Association to announce a new network designed to make patient medical records more easily accessible to doctors and health care providers.

The Florida Health Data Network, which is offering competition to the state-run Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, is to be operated by the Tallahassee-based HIE Networks LLC, a private, physician-owned company.

Appeals Court Declines to Stop Barrel Racing in Gretna

Barrel racing and card playing will continue in Gretna while opponents try to shut the track down in court, an appeals court ruled Tuesday, rejecting a request to close the doors immediately while the underlying challenge moves forward.

A day after hearing arguments, a three-judge panel of the 1st District Court of Appeal denied a request by a group led by the Florida Quarter Horse Racing Association and the American Quarter Horse Association to shut down the newly opened track that has been offering pari-mutuel wagering and card games since Dec 1.

Tax Credit for Health Coverage Awaits Obamacare's Demise, Heritage Proposes

If the U.S. Supreme Court pulls the plug on Obamacare, a conservative think tank has a replacement standing by for families.

A fixed $2,000-per-person federal tax credit would enable households to purchase health coverage through the workplace or on the open market.

Providing additional subsidies to households with incomes of less than $44,700, the Heritage Foundation proposal limits costs by phasing out credits for upper-income earners.
