Governor's Office Reviewing a Trio of Crist Appointments
Appointments by former Gov. Charlie Crist to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission are being investigated for violating appointment guidelines, the Sarasota Herald Tribune reported.
The commission, a little-known division within the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, has 19 members that are mostly appointed by the governor, the Herald Tribune reported. Florida law states that no single law enforcement agency can have two representatives, but Crist named two apiece from the Palm Beach County sheriff's office, Jacksonville sheriff's office and Tallahassee police department.
Lane Wright, Scott's press secretary, wrote the Herald-Tribune that the matter remains under review and no action was expected until after the governor returns from an ongoing trade mission to Israel.
Today, eight of the 19 commission members have current or former ties with a union, the Herald Tribune reported. Five more members are sheriffs or police chiefs who oversee a department with a union as their collective bargaining agent.
