Craig Miller to Bill Nelson: Stand Up for American (Airlines) Workers

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Craig Miller released a copy of a letter he sent to Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., today. It reads:

The latest news about the bankruptcy of American Airlines reinforces what we all know: that is it past time that the U.S. Senate unites with the American people to stand up for American employee rights.

"American Airlines is a huge contributor to the Florida economy with one of their largest international hubs based out of the Miami International Airport. It is crystal clear to most Americans that our outdated labor laws stifle job-creation efforts, trample employee rights, and make Americas workers some of the least competitive in the world. The Employee Rights Act is simple and straightforward.

"The legislation would:

  • Guarantee secret ballot union elections.
  • Require union recertification elections.
  • Provide for paycheck protection.
  • Require standardized election timing,
  • Prohibit decertification coercion.
  • Require secret ballot strike vote.
  • Criminalize union threats.

"Senator Nelson, join Senator Marco Rubio, stand up for the rights of American employees and co-sponsor the Employee Rights Act.Stop talking about how you are looking out for American workers and stand up for them.Senator Nelson, do something for Americas employees, rather than to them.

Nelson's office did not immediately respond.
