Mitt Romney Announces County Chairs in Florida

Republican presidential hopeful former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts unveiled his team of county chairs for Florida on Wednesday.

In order to win in January, and defeat President Obama in November, my campaign will need the hard work of these Florida county chairs, said Romney, who is fighting former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich to lead national polls. Their work on the ground, reaching out to voters, will be important as I campaign to spread my pro-growth message and bring jobs back to Florida.

On Wednesday, former state House Speaker Adam Hasner, now in a crowded Republican primary field looking to take on Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, announced that he had signed a No Pork Pledge being pushed by Citizens Against Government Waste.

Local Police Employing Aerial Drones to Spy from the Sky

Forget Iran and Afghanistan. Americans have unmanned drones flying over their own heads, and more are coming.

With financial help from the federal government, police departments across the country are marshaling a new generation of remote-controlled airborne surveillance devices to be their eyes in the sky.

In North Dakota, a local sheriff called in a Predator drone from Grand Forks Air Force Base to help corral a family of cattle rustlers.

Mitt Romney Gets Endorsements in N.H. and Iowa

On Wednesday, Republican presidential hopeful former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts unveiled three big endorsements that will play well in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Romney announced that he had gained the backing of former Iowa House Speaker Brent Siegrist and former New Hampshire House Speakers Harold Burns and George Roberts.

Scott: Coca-Cola Investment to Add 60 Jobs in Polk County

Coca-Cola Refreshments is adding 60 jobs while investing $99 million to expand its Main Street juice production facility in Auburndale, Gov. Rick Scott announced Wednesday.

Coca-Colas choice of Auburndale for its expansion is a testament to the states supportive business environment and strong capabilities for serving corporate and manufacturing needs, Scott stated in a release. "Its also an outcome of our city and county partners commitment to growing Floridas manufacturing base to build a healthier economy.

ACLU Claims Bondi's Revised Ballot Language is Still Misleading

The ACLU of Florida says the new language submitted by Attorney General Pam Bondi for the Religious Freedom amendment continues to mislead voters.

"Whether in its original form or after today's tinkering by the attorney general, the proposal continues to mislead voters by failing to inform them of the chief purpose and actual impact of the amendment -- to virtually require taxpayer funding of religious activities of churches, mosques and synagogues," the ACLU stated in a release.

Teachers' Hourly Compensation Doubles Up Private-Sector Average

Two surprising new reports show that hourly pay and benefits for public-school teachers are higher than the compensation received by other government employees or similarly qualified private-sector workers.

Teachers enjoy greater average hourly compensation in wages and benefits than any other group of state and local government workers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The BLS also said teachers get more than twice as much in average hourly wages and benefits as workers in private industry.
