Thus, it should come as no surprise that in a monumental year --when the Arab Spring and Occupy were said to be movements that fed on the high-tech connectivity, when Europes euro caused constant global financial uncertainty, when Japan faced nuclear peril following an earthquake and tsunami, and when Osama bin Laden was finally gunned down -- online users worldwide should be focused on something going on in Florida.

EPA Puts Out New Air Pollution Standards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday released controversial new air-pollution standards that have been long sought by environmental and health advocates but could force expensive upgrades at some Florida power plants.

The standards will require hundreds of coal-fired power plants across the country to make improvements to curb emissions of mercury and other pollutants such as arsenic and nickel.

Atwater: Most Florida Banks Waive Wire Fees for Holocaust Survivors

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater appeared on the Jewish Life Television show "To Life, L'Chaim," on Dec. 19 to discuss efforts to get banks to forgive wire transfer fees on reparation payments to Holocaust survivors.

Atwater said about 80 percent of the banks in Florida have joined the program since the start of the year.

Continued low interest rates and a more confident consumer drove existing home sales up in November by 11 percent over last year, according to figures released by Florida Realtors.

Meanwhile, the median price for an existing home remained relatively flat, a continuation of a trend that Realtors say is a good sign that better days are ahead for an industry that could use a little good news.

At least Gator fans can still dream of past glory on the gridiron in Denver, alongthe sidelines at South Carolina and, starting next year, at Ohio State.

Church-State Watchdog Disappointed in Bondi's Rewrite

The attorney generals rewrite of the Religious Freedom amendment proposed to go before voters in November 2012 is disappointing and voters are unlikely to understand that the effort would mandate taxpayer funding of religion, a church-state watchdog group stated Wednesday.

The Americans United for Separation of Church and State, one of the parties that challenged the amendment, claimed in a release that the measure requires the government to fund religious institutions.
