AAA: Pump Prices to Continue Downward Trend through Holidays

Gas prices across Florida continue to fall and the trend is expected to continue even as the holiday demand picks up, according to AAA.

An average gallon at the pumps in Florida stood at $3.27 as the week began, down from $3.30 a week earlier.

Alabama Jobless Rate Drops Sharply as State's Immigration Law Takes Hold

Alabamas unemployment rate continued to fall at a record pace in November as the state's tough immigration-enforcement laws took hold.

The jobless rate dropped 0.6 percent to 8.7 percent, partly because the states employers opened up jobs to Americans after shedding illegal immigrants, the Daily Caller reported.

The unemployment rate is far below Octobers rate of 9.3 percent and Septembers rate of 9.8 percent.

U.S. Supreme Court Sets March Dates for Obamacare Arguments

The U.S. Supreme Court has set three days in late March for oral arguments in the challenge by Florida and other states to the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is better known as Obamacare.

According to Florida's attorney general's office, the nation's top court will:

March 26: "Hear one hour of oral argument on the jurisdictional issue of whether the federal Anti-Injunction Act bars challenges to the individual mandate."

Debates over immigration got the year underway and gambling was the focus as fall turned to winter for Floridas leaders.

Meanwhile, transportation -- ports, trains and rocket ships -- and the potential economic impacts tied in with them stood out across the state, filled the Internet, TV, and even the once-dominant means of communication: newspapers.

But when it all came down to it, the top business item was the seemingly single-minded focus of the governor: jobs.

FAMU Board to Rick Scott: Mind Your Own Business

With some lawmakers saying the school was being made a scapegoat, the Florida A&M board of trustees rejected -- by keeping their president in place -- what they say was political pressure from Gov. Rick Scott.

Scott responded to the boards action with a terse note saying he only suggested what he continues to believe would be in the best interests of the university, but that he will abide by the boards decision.
