GOP Senate Hopeful Adam Hasner Promises 'No Pork'
On Wednesday, former state House Speaker Adam Hasner, now in a crowded Republican primary field looking to take on Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, announced that he had signed a No Pork Pledge being pushed by Citizens Against Government Waste.
"It is a sad commentary on the state of affairs in Washington that a pledge like this is even necessary," said Hasner in a statement. "But given what we have seen out of both Republicans and Democrats in Congress this year, it is clear that wasteful pork spending is still a problem. Like the pledge I made to Florida voters on the first day of this campaign, I will go to Washington to challenge wasteful government spending in all its forms, from both parties, including pork-barrel earmark spending."
The Hasner team attempted to contrast their candidate with two of his leading primary rivals -- former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux and U.S. Rep. Connie Mack. The Hasner team forwarded media reports about earmarks backed by those two Republicans.
