SpaceX , First Commercial Flight to ISS, Lifts Off From Cape

The unmanned SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket/Dragon space capsule, a private venture, launched successfully at 3:44 a.m. from Cape Canaveral.

Dragon, an undertaking by billionaire Elon Musk, is the first nongovernmental spacecraft launched to the International Space Station.

A number of in-orbit test maneuvers are still needed for NASA to approve the mission to dock with the ISS.

Pam Bondi: SUR-13 Member Gets Life Sentence for Murder

Daniel Boom Robledo, who faces charges associated with the state attorneys office crackdown on the SUR-13 street gang, received a life sentence Monday for the second-degree murder of a Manatee County man.

Robledo will return to the courtroom in November to face racketeering charges and three counts of armed robbery.

This man is the fourth SUR-13 gang member sentenced to prison in recent months, Attorney General Pam Bondi stated in a release.

Wind Mitigation Inspections Accelerate

Following up on calls to raise premiums to match risk, Florida's state-backed property insurer is taking a second look at wind mitigation incentives put in place a decade ago.

For many of its customers, that means higher rates.

Citizens Property Insurance Corp. plans to take a look at 209,000 residential policies by the end of the year to see if granted wind mitigation credits are warranted.

Political Consultant and IRS Scofflaw Doug Guetzloe Sentenced to 15 Months

In Orlando on Monday, political consultant Doug Guetzloe, founder and chairman of Ax the Tax, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for failing to file his tax returns.

Prosecutors said Guetzloe failed to file returns on almost $187,000 in income in 2005, and more than $188,000 in 2006.

During his February trial, IRS employees testified that Guetzloe repeatedly filed his tax returns late, and because of that, accrued more than $200,000 in fines and penalties.

His attorney asked for, but was denied, just probation for his client.

Connie Mack Calls for Federal Investigation of Charlie Crist Senate Appointment of George LeMieux

The team behind Republican Senate hopeful Connie Mack on Monday continued to drill primary rivalfor his ties to former Gov. Charlie Crist -- and demanded the U.S. Department of Justice launch a criminal investigation that LeMieux used improper influence to get Crist to appoint him to the Senate.

LeMieux and Mack are both angling for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November.

Three Face Prosecution in Statewide Registered Voter Review

Before heading overseas, Gov. Scott said that he would like to see some people prosecuted if an arranged effort was made to put on the voter rolls non-Floridians and those ineligible to cast a ballot.

Interviewed by BIZPAC Review in Boca Raton last week, Scott said he hoped there would be prosecutions if people purposely register to vote when ineligible.

We have laws, you should comply with the laws of our state. You should not be voting if youre not a registered voter, Scott responded in a BIZPAC interview on May 16.
