Alan Grayson Likes His Chances for Return to Capitol Hill

Opening his campaign headquarters in Kissimmee, former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson says he's confident he will earn a return trip to Capitol Hill.

In an exclusive interview with Sunshine State News, the outspoken Democrat said he's raised $2 million from 50,000 contributors since last July.

That's "more than any House challenger in the United States and more than 99 percent of current House members," he reported.

Gerard Robinson to Host 'Conversation' with Tampa Parents

Florida Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson will hold what is announced as the first in a series of community forums with parents, teachers and local officials tonight -- May 23 -- in Tampa.

The first Conversation with the Commissioner comes in the shadow of the new grading standards for the FCATs that resulted in fewer students passing the test, causing state leaders to revise the scores.

Jeb Bush Hits the Airwaves for Lizbeth Benacquisto

The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) is hitting the airwaves with a new commercial for state Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Wellington. The ad praises the freshman senators record on taxes and fiscal matters and showcases her support from one of the leading Republicans in the state -- former Gov. Jeb Bush. While she is a freshman, Benacquisto is part of the Senate leadership serving as deputy majority leader.

Tom Rooney: Did White House Access Compromise Secrets on Bin Laden Mission?

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Tequesta, wants to knowif White House access to filmmakers has resulted in the release of classified information involving the raid that killed terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.

Rooney, a member of the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees, asked Department of Defense Acting Inspector General Lynne Halbrooks on Wednesday to investigate the potential leaks.

Tom Coburn Backs George LeMieux to Take on Bill Nelson

On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., announced that he was backing former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., in November.

Prominent Jacksonville Leader Endorses Mike Weinstein for Senate

Prominent Jacksonville businessman and GOP activist Tom Petway, still well-regarded on the First Coast for helping bring a National Football League franchise to the region, announced on Wednesday that he is backing Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Orange Park, for the state Senate. Weinstein is running for a seat that represents parts of Duval and Nassau counties.

Rick Scott: Florida Hears 'Significant' Interest from Spain; Success Harder to See

Florida Gov. Rick Scott said hes heard significant interest in the Sunshine State from companies from Spain. But he acknowledged that long-term success from the ongoing business development mission in Madrid may be hard to fully quantify.

Officials from at least one tourism company in Madrid plan to do more business in Miami, while a Spanish woman may bring her childrens books and magazines to Florida, he said.

Ana Rivas Logan: Florida Retail Federation 'Legislator of the Year'

State Rep. Ana Rivas Logan, R-Miami, has been named the Florida Retail Federation's Legislator of the Year.

I am honored to have been selected as this years Legislator of the Year, Rivas Logan stated in a release. It is especially important in the current economy we keep Florida businesses up and running as smoothly as possible.

The award will be presented June 20 during the federations annual midyear board meeting in Orlando.
