Expect Bigger Political Spending from Florida Chamber, AIF

May 24, 2012 - 6:00pm

There should be little surprise that the states largest and most authoritative business advocates expect to be as -- or more -- engaged in the 2012 election cycle than they were in past campaigns.

This could mean more TV ads as the campaigns race to the wire, and even more attention to social media, such as YouTube and Twitter.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Florida, which have historically sided with the Republican Party and candidates in the Sunshine State, are already maintaining that trend in terms of where theyre spending their money.

Nonetheless, there are a number of sites across the state that entertain and instruct -- as well as honor our fallen soldiers and sailors.

The Tampa Bay Rays are Team No. 1 for 18 percent of fans, followed by 15 percent cheering for the Miami-based Florida Marlins, 8 percent for the Boston Red Sox and 7 percent for the Atlanta Braves, the poll found.

The New York Mets win the hearts of 4 percent of Floridians, with no other team above 3 percent.

NSF Has Five Questions for Doug Guetzloe

May 24, 2012 - 6:00pm

Political consultant Doug Guetzloe is in the news this week after being sentenced to 15 months in federal prison Monday for not filing his tax returns. But he has long been a newsmaker and figure of controversy. His conservative activism takes many forms in Central Florida, where he's based, and in state and national issues. He founded Ax the Tax, a Florida anti-tax group, in 1982, and is a radio talk-show host and media maven. (Last month he was one of the Sayfie Review's "Florida Gurus.")
