Ted Yoho Takes Gilchrist Tea Party Straw Ballot

Tea party members in Gilchrist County backed Ted Yoho, a large-animal doctor from Gainesville, in a straw ballot among party members in the congressional GOP primary for the new District 3 seat held by incumbent U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Ocala.

Yoho, who has also received the support of the OBrien Tea Party, picked up 69 percent of the votes in the Gilchrist polling.

Bill Nelson Edges Connie Mack in New Q-Poll

A poll released Thursday shows that Democrat Bill Nelson can expect a tough contest to retain his Senate seat in November if he is challenged by U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican nomination.

The poll of registered voters shows Nelson beats out Mack, taking 43 percent while the Republican garners 39 percent.

Obama Holds Small Lead Over Romney in New Q-Poll of Florida

A poll released by Quinnipiac University on Thursday shows a close race between the presidential candidates in the Sunshine State, with President Barack Obama holding a small lead over Mitt Romney.

The poll of registered Florida voters shows Obama taking 46 percent withRomney following at 42 percent.

60 Plus Bus Tour Headed to Florida

The 60 Plus Association, which bills itself as the leading conservative seniors organization with more than 7.2 million supporters, is launching its Healthcare Freedom bus tour Thursday in Florida, beginning in Sarasota.

The purpose of the tour is to discuss with seniors their concerns over the so-called Affordable Care Act -- Obamacare -- which 60 Plus labels the Unaffordable Care Act, based on costs that are soaring into trillions over the Obama administration's estimates.

FOX 35: Sanford Fires Police Chief

The city of Sanford will officially announce on Thursday that embattled police chief Bill Lee has been fired, FOX 35 is reporting.

Lee, who in April had his resignation rejected by the Sanford City Commission, had stepped aside from his duties as chief on March 22 after the majority of the Sanford City Council expressed no confidence" over his handling of the Feb. 26 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, 28.

In the latest skirmish in a legal battle about taxes paid by online-travel companies, a Leon County circuit judge heard arguments Wednesday about email exchanges involving a lobbyist for industry giant Expedia.

Attorneys for Broward County,alleging in a lawsuit that online-travel companies have not paid enough in hotel taxes, want access to the email exchanges involving lobbyist Jennifer Green. Broward is trying to bolster claims that Expedia has long known that it should pay the disputed tax amounts.

Rick Scott: I Care About Unemployment, Not My Poll Numbers

Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday he is less concerned about his approval ratings than the unemployment mark.

When asked following an appearance before the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, Scott didnt directly address the results of a Quinnipiac University poll released earlier in the day that indicated Floridians have a low opinion of their governor.

The number I look at every month is our unemployment rate, Scott told reporters at the Leon County Civic Center event.
