GOP Narrows Gap Among Florida's Registered Voters

Republicans have seen their rank and file numbers grow this year in Florida by a near 3-to-1 clip against the Democrats, which remains the states largest political party in terms of overall registered voters.

While Republicans dominate the state Legislature, there are now 4,581,056 registered Democratseligible to vote in the Aug. 14 primary in Florida and 4,137,890 Republicans, according to the state Division of Elections.

Since the January primary, the Republicans have added 74,037 voters across the state.

Despite media speculation that he was being shunted to the sidelines for the sake of the presidential contest, Florida Gov. Rick Scott will take the stage during the Republican National Convention in Tampa, along with a former presidential candidate and two dark horse prospects for vice president.

Pam Bondi Encourages LCD Screen Buyers to File Claims; $1.1 Billion in the Mix


Florida consumers who bought a TV, monitor or notebook computer that contained a TFT-LCD flat panel screen may be eligible for a share of $1.1 billion in settlements.

Attorney General Pam Bondi is encouraging consumers potentially eligible for a share of the multistate settlements involving price-fixing of LCD panels to file claims starting Wednesday.

The deadline to file is Dec. 6.

Florida School Year Kicks Off This Week in Seven Counties

The 2012-2013 school year begins this week, with seven Florida counties opening their doors for students.

Charlotte County is the first, opening Tuesday. Brevard, Citrus, Lee, Nassau, and Walton counties start on Wednesday.The first day of class in Sumter County is Thursday.

The majority of the states 67 county school districts begin class Aug. 20.

Rick Scott Named a Speaker for Republican National Convention

Florida Gov. Rick Scott will join South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley andNew Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez at the podium during the Republican National Convention.

Fox News reports that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Ohio Gov. John Kasich have also been named headline speakers for the event later this month in Tampa.
