Florida School Year Kicks Off This Week in Seven Counties
The 2012-2013 school year begins this week, with seven Florida counties opening their doors for students.
Charlotte County is the first, opening Tuesday. Brevard, Citrus, Lee, Nassau, and Walton counties start on Wednesday.The first day of class in Sumter County is Thursday.
The majority of the states 67 county school districts begin class Aug. 20.
A new school year is always exciting and brings the promise of high expectations, outgoing Commissioner of Education Gerard Robinson stated in a release.
Florida teachers and district leaders have done phenomenal work increasing student achievement and I am confident they will continue to build on that success in the coming year. My wish for the new school year is for a healthy, safe, and productive environment that gives students the opportunity to excel.
