Florida International, FSU Law Schools Boast Top Placement in New Rankings

The Sunshine State capitals resident law school can boast of two new additions to its already long list of honors and accolades.

On Aug. 28 Hispanic Business magazine released its 2012 list of the nations top law schools for Hispanic students. Of the 202 schools accredited by the American Bar Association, Miamis Florida International University College of Law and Tallahassees Florida State University College of Law ranked second and third best, respectively, while the University of Miami School of Law made it to ninth place.

Pam Bondi: Janssen Settlement Lands $11 Million for Florida

Florida is expected to receive $11 million from a multistate settlement with Titusville, N.J.-based Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., that will go to future enforcement and attorney fees, the state attorney generals office announced.

Floridas share comes from a $181 million settlement over claims from 37 states, with Florida at the front of the investigation, that Janssen used deceptive and unfair trade practices to market antipsychotic drugs Risperdal, Risperdal Consta, Risperdal M-Tab and Invega for off-label uses.

Connie Mack: 'If Mitt Romney Wins, I Win'

U.S. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, doesnt believe he needs Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to carry Florida for him to knock out long-serving U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando.

But Mack adds that if Mitt Romney wins, I win. If I win, Mitt Romney wins.

With a blend of presidential nominee Mitt Romney's biography, a few parting shots at President Barack Obama and a surprise and surprising appearance by Clint Eastwood, the Republican National Convention in Tampa closed, even as Florida remained central to the presidential election.

It was a night studded with stars of the Florida Republican scene, a nod both to the critical role the state's 29 electoral votes will play in the November election and the Latino populations that could dictate the outcome in several other swing states.

Hollywood actor and director Clint Eastwood may not have meant to, but in his surprise speech at the RNC this evening, he effectively said the GOP nominee should not be elected president.

Could Jeb Bush Be the Next U.S. Secretary of Education?

Could it be? Could a Mitt Romney victory in November set the table in Washington for education-impassioned Jeb Bush?

Bill O'Reilly, reporting live Thursday from the Republican National Convention in Tampa during FOX's "O'Reilly Factor," had this to say after former Gov. Jeb Bush's elaborate speech on education:

"If Mitt Romney wins, Jeb Bush could be the next secretary of education."

Flags to be Lowered Friday for Neil Armstrong

National and state flags will be at half-staff Friday across Florida for Neil Armstrong.

Gov. Rick Scott ordered the flags lowered at all local and state buildings, installations and grounds in honor of Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, who died Aug. 25.

Scotts order follows a proclamation from President Obama to lower national flags at all federal facilities.
