National GOP Platform Includes 'Stand Your Ground'

Controversial "stand your ground" laws that have come into the spotlight since the shooting of Trayvon Martin have found their way into the Republican Party's national platform.

Nestled in the massive document, which outlines in minute detail the national party's agenda for the next four years, is a provision that expands earlier support for Second Amendment rights to specifically include self-defense outside the home.

"We support the fundamental right to self-defense wherever a law-abiding citizen has a legal right to be" the plank reads.

Rick Scott Brings In New Media Director from RNC, Bobby Jindal

Brian Burgess, the director of communications for Gov. Rick Scott, is heading to the Republican Party of Florida.

Burgess will be replaced in the governors office by Melissa Sellers, a former communications director for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and who served as the director of regional media for the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Scott praised Burgess as a trusted aide and a strategic and political adviser.

Capitol lobbyist Brewser Brown, former Gov. Jeb Bushs education adviser, has been named to head Capitol Resources LLCs expansion into Florida.

The Jackson, Miss.-based lobbying firm focuses on the Gulf states, with offices also in Alabama, Louisiana and Washington, D.C.

Jeff Atwater: Eight Arrested in Miami for Staged Crashes

Eight South Floridians have been charged with conducting numerous staged accidents connected to auto insurance fraud rings, the states chief financial officer announced Tuesday.

Florida officials, including CFO Jeff Atwater, have claimed that fraud has been in part responsible for rates growing by $1 billion for no-fault -- personal injury protection -- auto insurance coverage.

The staged auto crashes linked with the eight individuals resulted in more than $340,000 in fraudulent auto insurance claims, according to Atwaters office.
