Pam Bondi: Janssen Settlement Lands $11 Million for Florida

Florida is expected to receive $11 million from a multistate settlement with Titusville, N.J.-based Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., that will go to future enforcement and attorney fees, the state attorney generals office announced.

Floridas share comes from a $181 million settlement over claims from 37 states, with Florida at the front of the investigation, that Janssen used deceptive and unfair trade practices to market antipsychotic drugs Risperdal, Risperdal Consta, Risperdal M-Tab and Invega for off-label uses.

There are federal bans onpharmaceutical manufacturers from promoting products for off-label or non-approved uses, although physicians may prescribe drugs for those uses.

This landmark settlement holds Janssen accountable for its actions and sends a message to all pharmaceutical companies that these practices will not be tolerated, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi stated in a release.
