Florida Democrats Congratulate President Obama on Winning Florida

The Florida Democratic Party has released the following statement from Chairman Rod Smith on the presidential contest in the Sunshine State:

On behalf of Florida Democrats, I wish President Barack Obama congratulations on his re-election and on winning Florida's 29 electoral votes.

Obama Up 55,832 in Florida with Three Counties Still Counting

Hard to imagine that with only three counties remaining there are enough absentee ballots still uncounted that would allow Mitt Romney to overtake President Obama for Floridas now inconsequential 29 electoral votes.

Still, no media outlet has called Florida for Obama as Duval, Palm Beach and Broward counties continue to count absentee ballots, according to the Florida Department of State.

Bill Brown Completes Florida Polytechnic University Board

The Florida Board of Governors named William Mitchell Bill Brown, president and CEO of Harris Corp., to the Florida Polytechnic University board of trustees.

Brown is the final appointment from the state board and Gov. Rick Scott to the Lakeland university that is this year became Floridas 12th public university.

Charlie Crist: Florida Election 'Not Embarrassing; Shameful.'

Former Republican Charlie Crist, who so far isnt running as a Democrat to evict Gov. Rick Scott from the governors mansion, continues to criticize the 2012 election as Florida has yet to determine how its voters stood on the presidential election.

Not embarrassing; shameful. This can never happen again, Crist tweeted out Thursday.

The state remains too close to call between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney from Tuesdays election.

Absentee ballots continued to be counted in Miami-Dade County on Thursday morning.

Jack Latvala Will Not Be Senate President

The 2012 election cycle wasn't kind to Jack Latvala.

His dream of leading the Florida Senate in 2016 -- after incoming President Don Gaetz this year and Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando in 2014 -- is now dimmer than a Flintstones' nightlight.

First, voters ousted two of his pledges -- state Reps. Jim Frishe, R-St. Petersburg and Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville -- in the GOP Senate primary.

Now Ellyn Bogdanoff, the primo name on his list, his prize pledge, lost her re-election fight.

Jobs Director Collected Jobless Benefits Prior to Appointment

Hunting Deutsch, a 30 year banking executive who oversees unemployment benefits in Florida as head of the Department of Economic Opportunity, picked up jobless benefits prior to landing the state gig, the Florida Current reports.
