Top Water Lobbyist, Ernie Barnett, Resigns from SFWMD
The South Florida Water Management Districts top lobbyist announced his retirement at the agencys governing board meeting Thursday.
Ernie Barnett, the SFWMDs assistant executive director and head of its mammoth Everglades and water resources initiatives, has been with the district since 2005. He was instrumental in Tallahassee this year helping legislators understand Gov. Rick Scotts Everglades Restoration Strategies and its implications for settling challenges by the federal government.

Trial Lawyers Love Donating to Charlie Crist Campaign
Trial lawyers sure do love Charlie Crist.
At least that's what Friday's fundraising numbers seemed to suggest. The fundraising committee "Charlie Crist for Florida" posted its fundraising numbers, and the committee raised $872,000 in its first 12 days.
Over half of those donations -- $484,000 -- came from donors listed as attorneys or law firms. Crist is currently employed by big-time trial lawyer John Morgan, who is expected to start raising serious cash around the country for the gubernatorial candidate.

Florida Boasts Record Tourism Boom
Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday that a whopping 22.9 million visitors came to Florida from July to September, the largest third-quarter for visitation in the state's history.
The number is 1.7 percent higher than the same period in 2012.

David Jolly Attacks Alex Sink on Obamacare
Republican congressional hopeful David Jolly took aim at former state CFO Alex Sink on President Barack Obamas federal health-care law on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Obama apologized for the health care law rollout and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) bashed Sink for supporting the law.

Driverless Cars? In Florida, Maybe
Driving may get a little less hands-on in the Sunshine State, according to experts from the Florida Department of Transportation.
The experts gathered Thursday and said Floridians could see widespread use of automated cars in the next decade or so due to advances in computer software, GPS systems and sensors.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the FDOT is gathering with the University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research and other groups to host the first ever Florida Automated Vehicles Summit to get driverless cars on the road in Florida.
