Vern Buchanan Wants Trump to Press Kim Jong-un on Returning Remains of American POWs, MIAs from Korean War

With President Donald Trump getting ready to meet with the leader of the North Korean regime next week, a congressman from Florida is calling on the president to push Kim Jong-un for the remains of American military personnel who are still missing from the Korean War. 

On Thursday, as Trump readies to meet the North Korean dictator in Vietnam, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla.. noted that the fates of more than 5,000 POWs held by  North Korea during the war remain unaccounted for.  

Mike Waltz, Bill Posey Urge Pentagon to Base Space Command in Florida

Led by two Republican congressmen, members of the Florida delegation are calling on the Trump administration to base the proposed U.S. Space Command in the Sunshine State. 

On Tuesday, Florida Republican U.S. Reps. Bill Posey and Mike Waltz wrote a letter to acting U.S. Defense Sec. Patrick Shanahan on the matter. Waltz, the only freshman Republican serving on the U.S. House Armed Forces Committee, has been increasingly vocal about his support for the space industry’s role in Florida.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is once again pushing legislation giving the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC)  more of a role in stopping school shootings, this time with the help of new U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla.

Vern Buchanan Tapped to Join David Price as Chairs of House Democracy Partnership

One of the cochairs of the Florida delegation in the U.S. House will be taking on a leadership role with the House Democracy Partnership (HDP) for the next two years in Congress. 

U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., announced on Wednesday that he will pair up with U.S. Rep. David Price, D-NC, in leading HDP, a group of 20 members of the House who work with “partner countries around the world to support the development of effective, independent, and responsive legislative institutions.” 

Mike Waltz: Armed Services and Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee Will Help Florida

This week, freshman U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., announced his subcommittee assignments on both the U.S. House Armed Services and the House Science, Space and Technology Committees.

On the Armed Services Committee, Waltz, who served as a Green Beret and as an aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, will sit on the House Seapower and Projection Forces and the Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittees. From his perch on the  Science, Space and Technology Committee, Waltz will sit on the Space and the Investigations and Oversight Subcommittees.

Matt Gaetz--are championing a resolution  “expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that sea level rise and flooding are of urgent concern impacting Florida that require proactive measures for community planning and the states tourism-based economy to adapt.”

Rooney introduced the resolution at the end of last week with Gaetz as the only cosponsor.

At the end of last week, U.S. Rep. Dan Webster joined several members of Congress, including Democrat U.S. Reps. Don Beyer of Virginia, Brad Schneider of Illinois and Tom Suozzi of New York and Republican U.S. Reps. Paul Cook of California and Paul Gosar of Arizona in calling to reform the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
