At the end of last week, U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., brought back a bill to help boost security at schools around the nation. 

Now starting her second term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., landed a post to help her party protect its new majority in the U.S. House while she ramps up her criticism of President Donald Trump. 

From his seat on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., brought out a resolution condemning the communist regime in Cuba, accusing it of running a  “program that sends tens of thousands of Cuban medical professionals to foreign countries to work under conditions that qualify as human trafficking.”

Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), spoke to the Florida Center-Right Coalition on Thursday, praising policies embraced by Republicans in Tallahassee and saying that supporters of the free market should not expect much action in Washington D.C. over the next two years. 

U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., who has been the vice chairman of the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee before the Democrats flipped the House in November, brought out a proposal to “ensure veterans are able to receive both their VA disability compensation and their military retired pay, eliminating the unfair offset between the two benefits.” 

With National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., doubled down on his “Thin Blue Line Act.”

On Tuesday, the federal government put more sanctions on members of the Maduro regime in charge of Venezuela as Republicans in the Florida delegation backed the administration’s decision.

From his perch on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, at the end of last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., brought out a bill to protect American technology from China and other nations. 

Starting his second term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., unveiled a bill to  “permanently ban oil and gas leasing, preleasing, and related activities in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.”
