Now in his fourth term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., will continue to lead Republicans on a key subcommittee under the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee’s umbrella. 

Yoho will be the ranking Republican on the House Asia, the Pacific and Nonproliferation Subcommittee which he led as chairman when the GOP controlled the House. U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., will chair the committee. 

The North Central Florida Republican announced his new role on Wednesday. 

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is reeling in support from his fellow senators for his bill to protect American technology from China and other nations. 

Now wrapping up the first month of his second term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Al Lawson, D-Fla., has brought back a bill to help veterans start up small businesses. 

Already the chairman of the U.S. House Ethics Committee, U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., will also chair the U.S. House Middle East, North Africa and International Terrorism Subcommittee. 

First coming to Congress in a special election in 2010, Deutch has been the top Democrat on the subcommittee since 2013, often working with then U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., when she chaired it. Deutch has been a strong supporter of Israel and Jordan, including breaking with the Obama administration on the nuclear deal with Iran. 

With Congress agreeing to a temporary truce in the battle over funding the federal government and President Donald Trump’s proposal for a wall on the southern border, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., scored a win as the U.S. Senate passed a bill he championed focusing on the Middle East. 

At the start of the month, Rubio paired up with U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and U.S. Sens. Cory Gardner, R-Col., and James Risch, R-Idaho, to unveil the “Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act.” 

With the federal shutdown over--for at least three weeks--members of the Florida congressional delegation weighed in on the aftermath.

Two veterinarians currently serving in Congress have teamed up again to bring back a bill banning horse soring. 

Back in 2013, U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader, D-Oreg., paired up to introduce the “Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act.” Yoho’s and Schrader’s bill would amend the Horse Protection Act of 1970 to end horse soring which involves injuring the hooves and legs in order for the horse to have a dramatic, exaggerated leg motion which can be seen in Tennessee walking horses. 

Looking ahead to the congressional elections, Democrats and Republicans exchanged shots in the Sunshine State, placing their first chips down as they gear up for 2020.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) released a digital ad, hitting 25 Republicans in the U.S. House for the continued partial federal shutdown.

Last week, two Florida congressmen--Republican U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan and Democrat U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch--unveiled a proposal cracking down on animal cruelty and torture. 

Buchanan introduced the "Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act" with Deutch as the main cosponsor. 

The Florida Republican’s office explained why the congressman introduced the proposal.
