Former U.S. Veterans Affairs Sec. Jim Nicholson, who led the Republican National Committee (RNC), hit Tallahassee on Wednesday as he continues leading the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) “Explore Offshore” campaign.

Nicholson and former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2016 election cycle, chair the campaign which API launched back in August.

With Democrats calling for expanding the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is proposing a constitutional amendment to limit it to nine justices. 

Prominent Democrats, including former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and presidential candidates U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY, and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, have mulled over expanding the Supreme Court 

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Gets Russia-Venezuelan Threat Mitigation Act Through the House

This week, the U.S. House passed on a voice vote a proposal from U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., to have the U.S. State Department provide a threat assessment and propose strategies on dealing with Russia’s increased ties to the Maduro regime’s military in Venezuela. 

Wasserman Schultz introduces the “Russia-Venezuelan Threat Mitigation Act” at the end of February with the backing of Florida Democrat U.S. Reps. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Donna Shalala and Darren Soto and Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. 

John Kelly, Frederica Wilson Continue Their War of Words

The war of words between a Florida congresswoman and a former aide to President Donald Trump continued in recent days as U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., slammed retired Gen. John Kelly, a former White House chief of staff. 

Back in October 2017, Kelly weighed in on Wilson's account about what the president said to the widow and family of an American soldier killed in the line of duty in Niger. Kelly lost his son in the line of duty in Afghanistan in 2010. 

Ted Yoho Champions LNG at Puerto Rico Summit

Last week, a Florida congressman traveled to Puerto Rico to take part in a summit on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) which he continues to champion in Congress. 

U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon, R-PR, hosted the second  American LNG Summit in Puerto Rico. Last year, Yoho hosted the first summit in Jacksonville. 

More than 80 groups, elected leaders and diplomats took part in the event as they examined  LNG infrastructure, gas imports and exports, regulations, the role LNG can play in national security and new technologies.

While he has broken with conservatives on issues ranging from voting with Democrats against President Donald Trump’s executive action to build a wall on the southern border to supporting a carbon tax, U.S. Rep. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., is trying to protect speech on college campuses. 
 
Earlier this month, Rooney introduced the “Free Right to Expression in Education (FREE) Act.” 
 

Vern Buchanan Showcases Proposal Defending Domestic Produce From Mexican Imports

This week, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., continued to push against Mexico produce imports as the congressman insisted farmers in the Sunshine State were being undermined due to “unfair trade practices" and “unfair subsidies and illegal seasonal dumping.”
 
Buchanan held an event with the Florida Farm Bureau on Tuesday and he took aim at Mexico’s policies. 
 
“Today’s visit showed that Florida growers continue to be harmed by Mexico’s unfair trade practices,” said Buchanan. 
 

Francis Rooney, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell Want to Crack Down on Oxybenzone, Octinoxate Near National Marine Sanctuary System Coral Reefs

This week, two members of the Florida delegation unveiled a proposal to have the U.S. Commerce Department “issue regulations prohibiting the use of sunscreen containing oxybenzone or octinoxate in a National Marine Sanctuary in which coral is present, and for other purposes.”
 

Already Under Fire from NRCC, Stephanie Murphy Launches Bid for Third Term

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., the chairwoman of the Blue Dog Coalition, announced on Tuesday that she plans to run for a third term in 2020. 
 
Murphy released a web video in which she announced she was running again.
