Ted Yoho, Mike Waltz: Jacksonville, North Florida Will Benefit From Exporting Natural Gas

Two Republicans representing North Florida in Congress--U.S. Reps. Ted Yoho and Mike Waltz--are championing a proposal to expedite natural gas exports, insisting their bill will help the First Coast. 
 
Yoho brought out the “Small Scale LNG Access Act” on Monday which “will expedite the approval of natural gas exports equal to or less than 51.1 billion cubic feet per year.” Waltz is cosponsoring the bill. 
 

Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam Opens the Door to Presidential Bid

Fresh off winning reelection earlier this month, Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam is ramping up his possible bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. 
 
Messam easily won a second term winning 86 percent of Miramar voters as 5,867 votes were cast in his favor. Last week, he launched an exploratory committee, showcasing his record in office and highlight his biography. 
 

Charlie Crist Champions Expanding Medical Cannabis Options for Federal Employees, Veterans

Last week, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., unveiled a proposal to “remove limitations on federal employment for an individual legally using marijuana under the law of the state in which the individual resides, and for other purposes.” 
 
Crist introduced the “Fairness in Federal Drug Testing Under State Laws” on Tuesday and showcased in on Thursday. Republican U.S. Reps. Don Young of Alaska and Matt Gaetz of Florida are among the nine cosponsors.

The Democrat majority in the U.S. House, led by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is pushing to restore the DREAM Act and most Democrats in the Florida delegation are on board.

U.S. Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, D-Calif., rounded up more than 200 cosponsors on Tuesday when she introduced her “Dream and Promise Act” which will let DREAMers stay and offer paths to citizenship. Every Democrat in the Florida delegation besides U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., is cosponsoring the proposal. 

Adam Putnam, New CEO of Ducks Unlimited

Ducks Unlimited (DU) announced on Wednesday that former Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam will be their new CEO. Putnam, who ran for governor last year but was defeated by Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary, will start his new duties on April 1. 

Founded in 1937, Ducks Unlimited is a nonprofit based in Memphis focused on protecting wetlands and waterfowl. There are hundreds of thousands of members across the nation. 

With Donald Trump on Board, Marco Rubio Doubles Down in Push to Make Daylight Savings Time Permanent

This week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, continued his efforts to make Daylight Savings Time (DST) permanent.

Last week, Rubio brought back the “Sunshine Protection Act.” Rubio championed that proposal last year after the Florida Legislature passed a bill calling on Congress to make DST permanent across Florida. U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., is cosponsoring the bill in the Senate while U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., are championing the proposal over on the other side of Capitol Hill.

North Florida Congressmen Want to Make Things Easier When Veterans Transition to Civilian Workforce

Two North Florida congressmen--Republican U.S. Rep. John Rutherford and Democrat U.S. Rep. Al Lawson--brought back a proposal to help veterans transition out of the service and into the civilian sector. 

Back in October 2017, Rutherford and Lawson unveiled a bill creating a grant matching program for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support organizations that help veterans enter the private sector through job training programs and other training to help them enter the civilian workforce. While the bill cleared the House, it failed to pass the Senate.
