Rick Scott, Mike Braun Champion Congressional Term Limits, Presidential Line Item Veto

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., teamed up with U.S. Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., to propose major changes to the federal political system including a line item veto for the president, term limits in Congress and requiring a super-majority in Congress to raise taxes. 

Scott and Braun showcased their “Make Washington Work” plan on Tuesday. Besides the amendments, Scott and Braun unveiled a bill to end automatic congressional pay raises. 

Steube: 'Make Marriage Great Again Act' Can Fix the Federal Tax Code

Freshman U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., is looking to eliminate the federal Marriage Tax Penalty with the “Make Marriage Great Again Act.”

Steube introduced the bill, which amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to eliminate the Marriage Tax Penalty, earlier this month and weighed in on his proposal on Monday.

Four Florida Republicans Break Party Lines to Vote for Supplemental Disaster Relief Funds

At the end of last week, the U.S. House passed a $19 billion supplemental disaster relief package with funds to help Puerto Rico, Florida and other parts of the country hit by hurricanes and other disasters in recent years. 

The bill passed 257-150 on a mostly party lines vote though more than 30 Republicans joined the Democrats in passing the bill. President Donald Trump has stressed his opposition to the proposal, insisting it will hurt “our states, farmers and border security” and maintaining that relief efforts to Puerto Rico have been mismanaged. 

Gus Bilirakis Would Expand Dental Care for Veterans

U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., one of the top Republicans on the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee, has brought back a proposal to expand dental care to veterans. 

Last week, Bilirakis reintroduced the “Veterans Early Treatment for Chronic Ailment Resurgence through Examinations (VET CARE) Act”  which would expand dental care for veterans and create a four year pilot program. Currently, only fully disabled veterans or those with service related injuries get dental benefits through the VA. 

Bilirakis weighed in on his proposal on Friday. 

North Florida Congressmen's Proposal Helping Veterans Transition to Civilian Workforce Reaches House Floor

A proposal from four North Florida congressmen to help veterans transition out of the military and into the civilian sector is gaining steam on Capitol Hill and headed to the House floor. 

In recent days, U.S. Rep. John Rutherford, R-Fla., got his “Veterans Armed for Success Act” which would create a grant matching program for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support organizations that help veterans enter the private sector through job training programs included into a proposal from U.S. Rep. Mike Levin, D-Calif., helping veterans transition into the workforce.

This week, the U.S. Commerce Department announced it was suspending an agreement with Mexico on importing fresh tomatoes, garnering applause across the Sunshine State. 

As the Commerce Department continues to negotiate with Mexico, U.S. Commerce Sec. Wilbur Ross insisted the agreement, which had been in place since 2013, was not fair to American agriculture.

Gus Bilirakis Wants to Simplify Medicare Enrollments

A Florida congressman is behind a push on Capitol Hill to end gaps in Medicare coverage and cut down on late-enrollment penalties.

Noting that almost 760,000 Americans are paying fines for late-enrollment in Medicare which increases Part B premiums, on average, by 28 percent, U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., is backing the “Beneficiary Enrollment Notification and Eligibility Simplification (BENES) Act.” Other champions of the bill include U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif., U.S. Rep. Brad Scheider, D-Ill., and U.S. Rep.  Jackie Walorski, R-Ind.
