Ted Yoho Wants to Require Tax Preparers to Take a Proficiency Test

This week, U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., paired up with U.S. Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., on a bill empowering the IRS to set minimum standards for paid tax preparers. 

Yoho and Panetta brought out the “Taxpayer Protection and Preparer Proficiency Act" to that purpose. Over in the U.S. Senate, Democrats, led by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., have a companion measure.

U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., continues to rise in the Democratic ranks now that his party controls the U.S. House. 

Deutch, already the chairman of the U.S. House Ethics Committee and the U.S. House Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee and a cochair of the Climate Solutions Caucus, took on a new leadership post on Wednesday as he is the new vice chairman of the  House Democratic Caucus Task Force on Aging and Families (which was previously known as the Seniors Task Force).

Ted Deutch Brings Back Proposal to Let Canadians Stay in U.S. Longer

A Florida congressman has brought back a proposal to extend the amount of time Canadians who own or lease a home in the U.S. can stay there during the year. 

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-NY, reintroduced the “Canadian Snowbird Visa Act” which they worked together on back in 2017. The bill would add two extra months to the 182 days that Canadians can stay in the United States each year.
