U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is expressing his thoughts on some of the lead actors on Floridas political stage.

Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, announced on Wednesday that he would be creating a new select committee of Health Care Workforce Innovation. Rep. Jose Oliva, R-Hialeah, who is scheduled to become House speaker after the 2018 elections, will chair the new committee. Freshman Rep. Cary Pigman, R-Sebring, who is an emergency-room physician, will be the vice chairman.

On Wednesday, Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, announced that incoming Speaker Steve Crisafulli, R-Merritt Island, would take over from Rep. Steve Precourt, R-Orlando, as House majority leader in the 2014 session. Weatherford also announced that Precourt will take over the State Affairs Committee.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., continued his attacks on President Barack Obamas federal health care law this week, insisting Republicans join him in defunding it. Rubio also offered a warning on what could happen if the GOP doesnt stand together on the issue.

On Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott announced the Golf Channel is expanding in Orlando, creating 75 jobs and adding $1.9 million to the economy.

Rick Scott came to Flagler County to announce Aveo Engineering, which makes electronics for the aerospace industry, was expanding, creating 300 jobs and adding $7.5 million to the local economy in Flagler County. A global producer of high-technology electronics for the aerospace industry, Aveo Engineering will establish a design and manufacturing facility in Flagler County.

From his perch on the Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., met with Carlos Urrutia, Colombias ambassador to the U.S., on Tuesday. Noting the recent free-trade agreement between the two countries, Rubio stressed the importance of Americas relationship with that South American nation.
