Marco Rubio Files Amicus Brief in Religious Liberty Case

On Monday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., joined an amicus brief for Town of Greece v. Galloway, a religious liberty case which the Supreme Court of the United States will soon take up. A federal appeals court ruled having a prayer at town board meetings violated the Constitution. Rubio joins more than 30 Republican senators and U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., in filing the amicus brief.

Newsmax Places 2 Floridians in Top 25 GOP Women

Newsmax released a cover story on leading Republican women and placed two top Florida GOP leaders in their top 25. U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen ranked eighth on the list while Republican strategist Ana Navarro placed 22nd. Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is included as an up and comer but does not break the top 25. Rick Santorum, With 2016 in Mind, Heads Out to Iowa

The defending champion of the Iowa Republican presidential caucus will be returning to the Hawkeye State this week. Rick Santorum clearly is thinking about a second presidential bid and he admitted as much on Sunday morning when he appeared on Meet the Press.

Santorum will be hitting Rock Rapids on Thursday to help the Lyon County and the Northwest Iowa Republicans. On Friday, Santorum is planning to spend five hours at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines before heading to Ames for an event hosted by the Iowa Family Leader, a social and religious conservative group.

Tom Rooney Calls for Purple Heart Benefits for Fort Hood Victims

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla., joined fellow congressmen on Friday to sponsor the Justice for Fort Hood and Little Rock Heroes Act to ensure servicemen wounded in the Fort Hood attack and in the attack at a recruiting station in Little Rock receive the same benefits as members of the military wounded in combat.

Vern Buchanan Weighs In Against Federal Regulations

On Friday, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., voted for a bill which ensures any regulation with an economic impact of more than $100 million is voted on for Congress. The Republican-controlled House passed the REINS Act on Friday and sent it to the Senate.

Job creators are being suffocated by the cost of complying with a never-ending onslaught of complex and unnecessary regulations, said Buchanan. Todays legislation will help cut through the red tape, giving small businesses the tools they need to expand and hire new workers.

Stand Your Ground Gets Support of Majority of Voters

A national poll unveiled on Friday shows a majority of American voters support Stand Your Ground laws. Quinnipiac University released a poll which shows 53 percent of voters favor Stand Your Ground laws while 40 percent oppose them.

The poll shows major divisions on race. While 57 percent of white voters favor Stand Your Ground, the same percentage of black voters oppose it. Only 37 percent of black voters support Stand Your Ground and the same percentage of white voters oppose it.

Ron Paul Group to Hold Training Sessions in Florida

The Campaign for Liberty, which is chaired by former Congressman Ron Paul, will be holding political training sessions in Florida next month. They will be hosting an event at The Villages on Sept. 7 before heading to Jacksonville the next day.

John Tate, the president of the Campaign for Liberty, sent out an email to supporters late Thursday promising the sessions would provide proven methods for forcing change in the Legislature. He also wrote that the events would cover politics at the federal level.
