With Gov. Charlie Crist bailing out of the Republican party to continue his campaign for the U.S. Senate as an independent, it comes as no surprise that former Gov. Jeb Bush has endorsed Marco Rubios bid for the Senate. Bush and Rubio are close allies going back to their time in Tallahassee together.

Scott Fortune, an attorney based out of Jacksonville Beach, has challenged Congresswoman Corrine Brown in the Democratic primary. Fortune is a political unknown. How unknown? Despite calling Jacksonville home for over two and a half decades and following its politics very closely, I have never heard of him. Apparently I am not alone. Duval County Democratic Party Chairman Travis Bridges knew the name but did not know much else about Fortune.

While 43 of the 44 Democrats in the Florida House opposed the final budget on Friday, Rep. Darryl Rouson of St. Petersburg broke ranks and supported the measure. On the last day of a tumultuous 60 day session filled with highs and lows; filled with days of bad bills resurrecting and nights of good bills dying with very little rhyme or reason, I cast the lone Democratic vote in the Florida House in favor of the budget," said Rouson. "I did so with a heavy heart and a call to conscience."
