At a colorful media event in Tallahassee on Tuesday afternoon, Public Service Commissioner Chairwoman Nancy Argenziano resigned her post so she can endorse Democratic gubernatorial candidate state CFO Alex Sink. Argenziano, who served in the Legislature as a Republican, offered stinging words for the leadership of the Legislature and Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott.

Though it's too late for some drilling operations, the Obama administration is on the brink of announcing an end to its ban on deep-water oil drilling. Carter Rolle, in the office of Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, told Sunshine State News Tuesday, "The key to getting us to this point is the new safety rules, rules that should have been in place before the Deepwater Horizon accident." He said he expects the ban-lifting announcement to come just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustis, one of the backers of the Health Care Freedom Act which was removed from the November ballot, is retaliating -- targeting Justices Jorge Labarga and James Perry for removal from the state Supreme Court. The measure, which would have been Amendment 9 had it been on the ballot, would have given Floridians the right to opt out of President Barack Obama's new federal health-care measures.

Republican Rick Scott leads Democrat Alex Sink by a single percentage point in Florida's hotly contested gubernatorial race, a new Quinnipiac Poll showed today. The poll has Scott up 45-44 -- closely mirroring the 44-42 margin he held in a Sunshine State News Poll last week. Both survey results were within the statistical margin of error. Independent voters appear to be shifting the race. Independents, who backed Scott 46-40 at the start of the month, now support Sink 51-34.

Scorecard 2.0 is an upgrade from the previous system and seeks to identify and track major economic indicators. State CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic candidate for governor, and the Florida Police Benevolent Association have been teeing off on Republican nominee Rick Scott during the past week -- attacking Scott over the airwaves and in the press. On Monday, the Scott team stressed that law enforcement officials were backing their candidate, with Scott campaigning with 11 sheriffs including John Rutherford of Duval County and Bob White of Pasco County.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has been a vocal supporter of Daniel Webster, the longtime Republican leader in the Legislature who is now running against vulnerable Democratic U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson. On Monday, Huckabee --who moved to Florida earlier in this year and might be gearing up for another shot at the Republican presidential nomination come 2012 --sent an e-mail to his supporters asking them to continue to back Webster with financial contributions.

A poll released Monday from Rasmussen Reports shows the gubernatorial race remains close. The poll has Republican nominee Rick Scott at 50 percent and state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic candidate, at 47 percent. This is the first poll that has the Republican reaching the 50 percent mark.A poll released last week showed Scott leading by 5 points.
