The sports world is abuzz over the clip of Sal Alosi, a conditioning coach with the New York Jets, tripping up Nolan Carroll of the Miami Dolphins during a special teams play on Sundays game when the Dolphins upset their divisional rival. Carroll is not a bad rookie cornerback but he is probably best known in Tallahassee because of his mother -- incoming Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll. Its being reported that Alosi apologized to Carroll but tripping someone from the sidelines is never the correct thing to do -- and in this case, its clearly not politically correct.

In a surprising, if not bewildering, choice, the University of Miami named Temple coach Al Golden to lead the Hurricanes. Temple, which was kicked out of the Big East Conference for being uncompetitive, had just two winning seasons over its 100-plus year history. Golden turned things around for the Owls, who joined the Mid-America Conference and were 17-8 under his leadership. But questions are sure to arise about Golden's 27-34 career record as a head coach, and his ability to bring Miami back to competitiveness and relevance at the national level.

Liberals already unhappy with the Obama administration over taxes are going ballistic over an impending $7 billion loan guarantee for the nuclear power industry. The taxpayer-funded guarantees are embedded in the continuing resolution used to fund the government (in lieu of an actual budget). Passed by the House, the resolution now goes to the Senate, and environmental groups are urging citizens to call their senators to delete the guarantees.

As Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., filibusters against the Obama-GOP tax plan, Republicans should be prepared for further left punches. Liberal Democrats are angry that the president caved. Some have reportedly resorted to uttering expletives at him. But in reality, it's the soon-to-be-majority House Republicans who might have bargained for more.

While former House Speaker and incoming U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio has not even served a day in his new position yet, an activist out in Texas has created a Draft Marco Rubio website to promote the Floridians chances for the presidency in 2012. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, a noisy critic of the Federal Reserve, will finally get the chance to have oversight of the group that directs the country's monetary policy. It was announced today he will chair the Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee when Republicans take over the House next year. Paul has consistently called for the elimination of the Federal Reserve, and actually wrote a book called "End the Fed."

The Congressional Budget Office's claim that the DREAM Act will save taxpayers $2.2 billion over 10 years doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Though President Barack Obama touted the projection as a selling point for the student amnesty program, the so-called savings don't amount to even one-one hundredth of just one year of federal spending. Plus, most of the costs will be borne by local and state governments as they are the ones paying for the tuition subsidies of hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens.
