Website Up and Running to 'Draft Marco Rubio' for President in 2012
While former House Speaker and incoming U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio has not even served a day in his new position yet, an activist out in Texas has created a Draft Marco Rubio website to promote the Floridians chances for the presidency in 2012.
As a Republican, I think its crucial for the health of our nation that we beat Barack Obama, wrote the founder of the site, who identified himself as a late 20-something Texan.
When I look at the candidates out there who are thinking of running for president, I dont see politicians who can inspire Americans in the way necessary to beat an incumbent president, the founder continued. Marco Rubio can rally this nation to be great. So the goal of this site is to get Republicans to watch Rubio in action (what I call The Draft Marco Rubio Challenge) and then ask themselves Is there any other prospective candidate that I think would make a better leader for the U.S.A. than Marco Rubio? After careful thought, my answer is no. I hope yours will be, too.
The activist seems to be defending Rubio's lack of experience on the national stage -- and he has a point. Experience does not always help a president in the White House. James Buchanan had four decades of experience, including stints as U.S. Secretary of State, terms in both branches of Congress and as minster to England and Russia -- but he ranks as one of the worst leaders in American history. Lincoln and Wilson did not spend much time in political office before taking the White House. And, while he does not have many fans, I would say Chester A. Arthur, whose only political experience before six months as vice president was as collector of the port of New York, was a solid president who helped rebuild the American Navy and pushed for some political and spending reforms.
