Former Gov. Jeb Bush, who helped found a marketing company called Bush-el, has been named as a potential witness in an upcoming civil trial. Bush-el briefly did work for a Deerfield Beach company, Moving Water Industries (MWI). The civil trial has to do with commissions MWI paid to Nigerian sales agents, according to multiple documents filed in the case.

Michael Etienne is looking to move up the political ladder in 2014 -- but he has a tough assignment as he looks to beat one of the most established Democratic incumbents in South Florida. Etienne, an attorney and a leader of the Haitian-American community, is known in Tallahassee for working as a legislative aide in the Florida House but he has been trying to advance his career by running for office. He was part of a crowded field of Democrats in 2010 who ran for the House seat Yolly Roberson held, but Etienne placed third.

Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen continues to offer warnings about communist Cuba. On Monday, Ros-Lehtinen teamed up with fellow Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart and U.S. Rep. Longtime U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., died on Monday morning at the age of 89. Lautenberg was the last member of the Senate who was a World War II veteran. Faced with a major primary challenge from Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Lautenberg had already announced that he would not run again in 2014.

A new poll finds that President Barack Obamas federal health-care law remains unpopular with likely voters. Rasmussen Reports unveiled a poll on Monday which finds 54 percent of those surveyed see the law unfavorably while only 41 percent of them see it in a favorable light. Only 15 percent see the law as very favorable while 40 percent -- almost as many who see it as favorable -- view it as very unfavorable. The poll of 1,000 likely voters was taken from May 31-June 1 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

Researchers at the University of South Florida have requested from the state archaeologist a permit authorizing them to exhume some 50 bodies of long-deceased child inmates of theArthur G. Dozier School for Boys. "Based on our recommendation at a meeting with interested parties on Tuesday, the University of South Florida has requested a permit from the state archaeologist to allow for an exhumation of bodies at the Dozier School for Boys," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a terse statement announcing the development.

A new poll shows Hillary Clinton crushing Jeb Bush and Rand Paul in possible 2016 match-ups but does show the two Republicans beating out Joe Biden. Quinnipiac University released a poll on Friday showing Clinton beating Paul, 49 percent to 41 percent. She holds a similar lead over Bush, besting him 48 percent to 40 percent. Bush defeats Biden, 44 percent to 38 percent, while Paul leads the vice president 43 percent to 39 percent.

The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that former Attorney General Bill McCollum has closed the door to challenging Gov. Rick Scott in the Republican primaries next year. Scott defeated McCollum in a close and bitter contest. Still, McCollum, who was very active in helping Newt Gingrichs presidential bid in Florida in 2012, wouldn't be surprised if another candidate challenges Scott in the primaries.

Despite doing his undergrad work in Missouri and studying law at Southern Methodist, Gov. Rick Scott attempted to woo the Gator Nation on Thursday. Scott headed to Gainesville to present Steve Spurrier, now the head coach of the University of South Carolina football, with a Great Floridian award. Spurrier led the Gators to a national title as a coach and won the Heisman as a player there.
