Former governor Jeb Bush addressed critics of Common Core State Standards in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, and he didn't show signs of backing down from his support of the national standards. A new national poll finds Americans have mixed thoughts on teachers' unions. Rasmussen Reports released a poll on Tuesday which finds 40 percent of Americans see teachers' unions as favorable but 45 percent see them as unfavorable. The poll also finds that opponents of teachers' unions have more deeply held views. Almost a quarter of those surveyed -- 24 percent -- see teachers' unions as very unfavorable while only 13 percent see them as very favorable. The survey of 1,000 American adults was taken from Sept. 11-12 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

Bill Gunter, the pastor of Redeemer Community Church in New Port Richey, won the Republican primary on Tuesday in the special election to replace former Rep. Mike Fasano in the Florida House to represent parts of Pasco County. Gunter defeated Jim Mathieu, who served as Port Richey city attorney and interim city manager and chaired the Pasco County GOP, and insurance agent Jeromy Keith Harding in the primary.

On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., announced he was endorsing U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., to challenge U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., in 2014.
