Americans Aren't Confident Fed Can Keep Inflation Rate Down
A new Rasmussen Reports poll released Wednesday showed Americans aren't too confident that the Federal Reserve Board can keep the inflation rate down. The survey comes as conversations over who will be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve Board are heating up.
The poll found that 58 percent of the public lack confidence that the Fed can keep interest rates down and inflation under control, with 17 percent not at all confident. Only 36 percent of American adults are at least somewhat confident that the Federal Reserve Board can keep interest rates down, including 6 percent who are very confident.
Most Americans -- 74 percent -- said they are at least somewhat concerned about inflation, including 36 percent who said they are very concerned about inflation.
The survey of 1,000 American adults was conducted Sept. 15-16. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
