While shes best remembered for her literary works, including Their Eyes Were Watching God, Hurston was also a staunch conservative, especially in the last decade of her life. Hurston was an outspoken critic of communism but also of the federal government and American intervention overseas.

Former Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink might have called former Gov. Charlie Crist a "disaster," but that didn't stop the gubernatorial hopeful from donating $1,000 to Sink's campaign. Former state Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich is a major underdog to topple former Gov. Charlie Crist in the Democratic gubernatorial primary despite the favorite only joining the party in December 2012 after years as a Republican. But Rich reeled in an endorsement on Monday from state Sen. Dwight Bullard, D-Cutler Bay. After serving in the House, Bullard was elected to the Senate in 2012 and did not serve with Rich. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) turned up the heat on former state CFO Alex Sink on Monday as she continues her bid for a congressional seat representing Pinellas County. Sink has no opposition for the Democratic nomination while three Republican hopefuls battle it out in next weeks primary.
