Big Issues Remain at Mid-Point of 2016 Session

Florida's 60-day legislative session is halfway done.

Most of the major issues remain unresolved after weeks of lawmakers debating bills in committees. But that's not unusual --- lawmakers typically put off the big stuff until the end.

In the days leading up to the Jan. 12 start of the session, The News Service of Florida offered 10 issues to watch this year. Here is an update about what has --- or hasn't --- happened with those issues.

South Florida Congresswomen Team Up to Crack Down on Online Hotel Reservation Scams

Two South Florida congresswomen reached out across the aisle and teamed up on Wednesday to crack down on hotel booking fraud.

Lakeisha Hood Promoted at Food, Nutrition and Wellness

 Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam tapped Lakeisha Hood to lead the Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness.

Republican strategist Roger Stone, whose name has garnered some buzz as possible Libertarian candidate in the U.S. Senate race in Florida this year, will have a book coming out next week taking aim at former Gov. Jeb Bush, R-Fla.

AFP Ready to Rumble Against Film Incentives in the Senate

With the state Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development ready to take up a bill from Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, Americans for Prosperity’s (AFP) Florida chapter came out swinging against it, insisting Florida should not throw money at entertainment projects.
