Gwen Graham Showcases Efforts to Reach Across the Aisle
U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., showcased a study from CQ Roll Call which showed her as the most independent member of the Florida congressional delegation.
“This ranking shows I’m following through on my promise to represent the Second Congressional District with an independent voice,” Graham said on Wednesday. “It doesn’t matter if a bill is Democratic or Republican – I vote based on whether it helps the people of North Florida.”
Graham placed sixth among Democrats and ninth among all members when it came to breaking with the party lines. When she first took her seat early last year, Graham refused to back U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to be speaker of the House.
On Wednesday, Graham pointed to some issues when she reached across the aisle.
“The ‘North Florida Way’ and bipartisanship are working,” Graham said. “We passed legislation to defend Israel from terrorist tunnels. We gained StrikeForce status to fight poverty in rural counties. And we’re providing outstanding constituent services.
