3 Innovative Florida Farmers Win 2016 Agricultural Environmental Leadership Award

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam announced Wednesday  the recipients of the 2016 Agricultural Environmental Leadership Award, which recognizes agricultural producers who are practicing environmentally innovative farming techniques. This year’s recipients are Alliance Dairies of Trenton, Cherry Lake Tree Farm of Groveland and Jones Potato Farm of Parrish.

Congress Needs to Address Growing Zika Threat

On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., took to the Senate floor to back President Barack Obama’s call for $1.9 billion in federal funds to combat the Zika virus. His remarks were as follows:

The president has asked for $1.9 billion in funding and I am generally supportive of that request. I believe we need to deal with these issues on the front end, as quickly as possible.

Gwen Graham’s recent semi-surprise, twofer announcement has the Florida chattering classes (temporarily) taking their attention away from 2016 and toward a post-Rick Scott state Capitol.

The year 2018 will mark 20 straight years in which Republicans have monopolized the Governor’s Mansion. Democrats are understandably terrified about that continued dominance, particularly when they consider the judicial appointments the next governor will make.

At the moment, the Florida Supreme Court is the only true check on absolute Republican hegemony in Florida.
