Barney Bishop to Debate the Need for Gun Legislation on Miami TV Sunday

Barney Bishop, former president and CEO of Associated Industries of Florida and self-descibed serial entrepreneur, will debate an unnamed "Democratic lawmaker" on a Miami TV station Sunday. The subject: gun control legislation.
"You’ve written a strong, persuasive column on why new gun control legislation isn’t needed," Michael Putney, senior political reporter at WPLG-TV, Channel 10, wrote Bishop in an email. Putney was referring to "Banning Guns Won't Solve Our Problem," Bishop's guest column published Friday in Sunshine State News.

Floridians woke up Sunday morning to the unthinkable. On Saturday night, young people crowded into an Orlando club for music, dancing and the simple joys of being with friends. Hours later, 49 clubgoers were dead and dozens more were wounded.

Washington Democrats are calling for stricter gun control measures after a mass shooting in Orlando left 50 dead and dozens others wounded, and the National Rifle Association is calling on its members to oppose any legislation that might infringe on Second Amendment rights.
In an email sent this week to supporters, the NRA slammed Congress for trying to reinstate the federal ban on semi-automatic firearms, which is commonly referred to as the “assault weapons ban.”
Florida Republicans Want Rubio to Run Again

Even as David Jolly heads to the sidelines, a new poll shows Marco Rubio is a clear favorite for the Republican nomination if he wants a second term.
St. Leo University released a poll on Friday showing Rubio in control if he runs for another term in the Senate. Rubio has opened the door to running for another term and has until next Friday to make up his mind to run again. Prominent Republicans including Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and the NRSC leadership have urged Rubio to run for a second term.
