Zika Remains a Major Concern for Florida Voters

Floridians are concerned about the Zika virus, a new poll shows. 

Quinnipiac University released a poll on Thursday morning which finds 22 percent of voters in the Sunshine State are very concerned about Zika while 40 percent are somewhat concerned about it. While 22 percent say they’re not so concerned about it, 15 percent say they aren’t concerned about Zika at all.

Florida's growing bear population will be out of the hunting crosshairs for this year.

But a one-year pause may simply help the state build a better case for a hunt in 2017.

After hours of objections from animal-rights advocates and support from hunters, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted 4-3 late Wednesday against a staff recommendation to hold a hunt in October that could have been smaller --- in terms of permits and hunting grounds --- than the 2015 event in which 304 bears were killed over two days.

With his friend and ally Marco Rubio running for a second term in the Senate, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera bowed out of the Senate race on Wednesday morning. 

Lopez-Cantera met with Rubio last week after the jihadist terrorist attack in Orlando and urged his friend to run for a second term. On Wednesday, with reports out that Rubio was running for reelection, Lopez-Cantera ended his Senate bid.
