Barney Bishop to Debate the Need for Gun Legislation on Miami TV Sunday
Barney Bishop, former president and CEO of Associated Industries of Florida and self-descibed serial entrepreneur, will debate an unnamed "Democratic lawmaker" on a Miami TV station Sunday. The subject: gun control legislation.
"You’ve written a strong, persuasive column on why new gun control legislation isn’t needed," Michael Putney, senior political reporter at WPLG-TV, Channel 10, wrote Bishop in an email. Putney was referring to "Banning Guns Won't Solve Our Problem," Bishop's guest column published Friday in Sunshine State News.
Putney, host of "This Week in South Florida," confessed he's "someone in the media who thinks some legislation would decrease the likelihood of an emotionally disturbed person taking lives as Omar Mateen did."
"I'm looking forward to it," Bishop said. "I feel confident."
"This Week in South Florida," considered by many to be the preeminent news/public affairs show in the South Florida market, begins at 11:30 a.m. ET Sunday.
