Tampa Will Host 2012 Republican Convention

The Republican National Committee selected Tampa on Wednesday to be the site of the Republican National Convention in 2012. Tampa beat out Phoenix and Salt Lake City to host the event.

The convention will be held the week of Aug. 27 in the St. Pete Times Forum, which seats more than 21,000 and is the home of the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team.

Those 13 words imprinted on my brain when I first read them years ago and have stuck with me. Somewhat oddly, they came to mind a few days ago upon the nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Report: Immigrants are Taking Our Teens' Jobs, Too

Further fueling the national debate over immigration, a new report finds that the percentage of U.S.-born teenagers in the workforce has fallen as the share of immigrant workers rises.

The Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C.-based group that supports tighter border controls, found that the number of U.S.-born teenagers not in the labor force increased from 4.7 million in 1994 to 8.1 million in 2007. In the summer of 2009, the figure stood at 8.8 million.

Earlier today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service posted a tweet about tar balls washing ashore in Destin, which were thought to be from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Turns out, none of that was true.

Special Session or Showboating?

We started FloridaOil.org to propose our own constitutional amendment, but something we heard from thousands of peoplewho signed our petitions is that they would prefer to accomplish the goals without changing the Constitution. The Constitution should be reserved to preserve rights, not take them away or grant them.

RPOF Sells Crist Oil Painting on eBay for $7,700

The day Gov. Charlie Crist made his announcement to abandon the Republican party, Republican Party of Florida Chairman John Thrasher told the media one of the first things he would do would be to take down the portrait and sell it on eBay. Looks like he made good on that promise.

Less than two weeks after Crist announced, his former Republican colleagues have sold the painting of him that hung on the RPOF headquarters' wall for a profit. It auctioned on eBay for $7,700, according to an announcement released Wednesday.

Mike Bennett Urges Crist to Fire Insurance Commissioner McCarty
