By Friday of this week, the Senate Majority leader hopes to conclude debate on the financial reform bill. This bill has been pending for more than 3 weeks and major legislation is getting backed-up due to the valuable floor time it is consuming. Passing financial reform out of the Senate this week will be a tough feat for the Senate Democrats, because more than 100 amendments remain to be considered.

Jeb Bush and Republican U.S. Senate contender Marco Rubio campaigned together for the first time Friday night, with the former governor urging supporters at a crowded GOP fund-raiser in Wesley Chapel to return to their foundational beliefs.

Bush drew standing ovations at the Pasco County Ronald Reagan dinner and lavished praise on Rubio, who he formally endorsed earlier this week in a move given added loft by rival Charlie Crists earlier decision to break with the Republican Party and continue his Senate campaign as an independent.

Murzin Drops State Senate Bid

Big political news from the Panhandle. Rep. Dave Murzin, R-Pensacola, has dropped out of the race to take the state senate currently held by Durrell Peaden. Murzin will instead run for for a county commission seat in Escambia County.

This leaves Rep. Greg Evers, R-Baker, and Mike Hill, a businessman and West Point graduate, battling it out for the seat.

Quick Correction on 9th House District Story

Well we all make mistakes and I made one in my rush to deadline. In my story on energy and the battle shaping up in the 9th House District between Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda, D-Tallahassee, and former Leon County Democratic chairman Rick Minor, I said, "She may be in for another tough fight in 2010 as Minor's campaign has kept up with her fundraisng efforts the last two quarters."

This should have read "kept up with her fundraising efforts two of the last three quarters."
