Mike Bennett Urges Crist to Fire Insurance Commissioner McCarty

A day after Florida Office of Insurance Regulation Commissioner Kevin McCarty made a presentation to the Cabinet on new policies form his office, Sen. Mike Bennett, R-Bradenton, urged Gov. Charlie Crist to fire McCarty.

Bennett, who sits on the Banking and Insurance Committee, had called for McCartys resignation last year and is renewing the case this year, saying that McCarty has a strategy of allowing nearly bankrupt insurers to continue writing polices in Florida without warning homeowners.

Bennett went on the attack against McCarty, accusing the commissioner of lying. His out-of-control tactics include dishonesty and evasion when information is demanded, wrote Bennett. We are no longer able to trust McCarty's word or his actions.
